Plot Synopsis
Loki is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. We see him escaping the timeline in Endgame. The cunning villain escapes The Avengers and gets arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA for short).
Mobius, a member of TVA sets him on an assignment to catch the different antagonists (or variants) who have been upsetting the timelines. This entire procedure is further complicating and altering the timeline, causing them further complications.
General Review
Loki is the latest offering by Disney+ as a part of their MCU show offerings. Before starting this review I would like to clarify that I was not a fan of WandaVision but I did end up enjoying Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Loki was a huge improvement over WandaVision. I am comparing it to WandaVision because both shows deal with a mind-bending plot.
Loki is a beautiful and crazy show. It does not waste its potential. The first 2 episodes might feel a little slow (but not bad in any way) but if you get past that this show does not give you time to breathe.
The whole concept surrounding the “variants” and the existence of Time Keepers is very unique and opens the door for many possibilities. There are many time travel shows however, Loki deals with the subject of time travel from a different perspective.
The performance given by each actor is amazing but Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Sophia D Martino take the cake.
The show looks mesmerizing from a visual standpoint as well. We get to explore various timelines and each timeline is visually different but aesthetically pleasing. The VFX also looks good and unlike some other Marvel shows, VFX is not overused.
In short, the show is very good if you are a fan of MCU and it will make you fall in love with the character of Loki even more.
Now, let us discuss some elements which make the show great.
The Visuals
Marvel Studios is known to make visually brilliant movies for instance Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok. They have given Loki the same treatment.
The show looks incredible. They have used green-ish color palettes keeping in mind the visual traits of the titular character.
The VFX is top-notch and the cinematography is breathtaking. They have used various camera angles and shots that enhance the overall visual quality.
The Cast
The ensemble cast of Loki includes Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Agent Mobius, Richard. E Grant as Classic Loki and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvia.
All of these actors have done a phenomenal job portraying their characters. They all fit perfectly in their respective roles.
The chemistry between Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) is especially venomous. They hold the show together with their strong performances.
Besides these two, Sophia Martino and Richard E. Grant have also done an amazing job. Marvel always nails its casting and Loki is no different.
These characters will leave an everlasting impact on you and you would want to see more of them.
Character Development
The show is mainly based around Loki and his journey after he escaped during the events of Avengers: Endgame.
The show serves the purpose of fleshing out the character of Loki even more. We get up close and personal with him. We get to know why he does whatever he does.
You will see the character of Loki in a new light. He was already considered as one of the best villains in the MCU and now after seeing this show we can easily label him as one of the best characters in the MCU.
The whole show focuses on his transition from a villainous character to a heroic generous person.
The Future of MCU
Loki does a great job of setting up the future of the MCU. It has established the Time Keepers and TVA as well as another character which I will not be revealing.
Moreover, the show will serve as a link between the upcoming movies, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Loki has also been confirmed for a second season and with the concept of variants, the show has infinite potential. The story can keep on expanding while introducing new characters.
After the conclusion of the Thanos Arc, fans have been eager to know about the future of MCU which is slowly getting established through these Disney+ tv shows. Loki is used to set up future villains in the MCU.
It will be exciting to see what other projects Marvel announces after the success of Loki.
Conclusion
Loki is an overall amazing comic book show. It expands the MCU and opens up a stream of endless possibilities.
The show features great performances by its star-studded cast. It has a strong gripping storyline. It does get off track for one episode but picks up its pace right after it.
To conclude, it is binge-worthy. It only consists of 6 episodes so it is not a hassle to complete in a single session. The show is entertaining and has some comedic elements along with its serious storyline. It will never make you feel fatigued, especially if you are a fan of the MCU.
