5 Different Ways To Find The Name Of A Movie You Can’t Remember

What Is My Movie?

What is my movie is a website that helps you find the movie name when all you know is as specific as detail, plot, description, actor or director.

In a mission to make video search easier, this website is ready to use anything you give them and suggest movies in a way no other search engine can. You can even voice search!

“We aspire to create a new, descriptive way of searching video content,” What is my movie states. “Our technology understands the contents of video files itself. Ranging from text to pattern recognition, we reach down into data that has not been searchable in the past.”

How do you use the website to discover the name of that movie?

Super simple, type or say what you remember from the movie. It could be a great dialogue. Here’s a preview of us searching “Ages Backwards”:

Result: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.

Bless the 21st century art of AI

‘What Is My Movie’ also shows the Metacritic rating. Maybe that movie you watched as a kid and felt nostalgic about was a horrible movie afterall. I revisited Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps and I can tell you: Not every movie is as funny as it seemed when you were 8, I guess.

What Are The Other Ways To Find The Name Of A Movie You Can’t Remember?

Thanks to years of database, AI and Cinephiles, you’re a couple of clicks away to that name that has kept you wondering all this time!

IMDb

IMDb is a website with an endless movie database. Every movie that has ever existed is on this website! Chances are that you’ve already visited IMDb at least once in your life. I, for one, visit IMDb on a regular basis for movie details and cool trivia.

How to search on IMDb:

  • Use the Search IMDb to search what you remember from the plot, actors, directors, you name it.
  • Keep your search simple. Unlike “What is my movie”, IMDb doesn’t respond well to long sentences and guesses, so you better stick to clear keywords.
  • Follow our Easy IMDb search hack (explained below):

We’re throwing in this awesome shortcut https://www.imdb.com/search/title/ called ‘Advanced title Search’ to make your movie search more specific.

Advance Title Search, as its name clearly suggests, allows you to “Tick” as many things as you remember about the movie to give you the right answer. You’ll be able to filter the search by all of the below:

  • Title Type: Is it a Movie? Documentary? Tick it!
  • Release Date: You can even assume from what year to what year. This will narrow it down one step further,
  • Genre: If you remember guns, fast cars, a fit cast and fbi arriving late to the party. Spoiler alert: It’s an action movie, Tick it!
  • Plot: Remember some of the plot? Type the story that made you remember this movie in the first place.
  • Keywords: As we’ve previously mentioned, use defining keywords. Ex: Cop, Comedy, Beauty Pageant.
  • Title Group: Oscar-winning? Tick it. You can also choose Razzie-winning, but do you really wanna watch that?
  • Additional options: Language, Location, etc.

Extra Tip: Once you have found the long lost movie name, Add it to your wishlist by tapping (+Wishlist). If you ever forget that name again, IMDB will have it memorized for you.

All you have to do is easily sign up for IMDB to access this option.

FilmFind

Filmfind is a twist on IMDB. It’s a community-based website that answers your movie related questions. The ‘Quora’ of movies! It’s not AI or computer based, so you’re gonna have to wait for users to answer your question.

You can simply describe what you know about the movie and cinephiles will be more than happy to help you find the movie name you can’t remember. Is it a love story? Does the Ship hit an iceberg and sink? Did the violinists play before they froze?

This forum-like website will give you different answers from different users; vote for the right answer and enjoy the movie!

This website can be a great way to find the name of the movie by a scene. We’ve all seen short scenes from movies in Instagram videos or heard movie monologues used in Tiktok challenges. We’re sure remarkable cinephiles remember remarkable scenes from movies!

Search a movie on your streaming service

Finding the name of the movie you don’t remember is one thing, but is it even playing on the services you’re subscribed to?

Streaming giants like Netflix and Prime Video’s Search Option has your back!

Search for the actor, director, or even a movie’s music composer and you might find what you’re looking for. It’s kinda like a one stop shop.

Sounds great right?

Check the below search made on Netflix with search term: ‘Hans Zimmer’ the film score composer of the best movies out there. (Assuming you’re a music genius that can remember Hans and forget Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight, this one’s for you)

Netflix suggests all movies featuring Hans Zimmer’s score, as well as suggestions that other like-minded users that have searched the term ‘Hans Zimmer’ watched on Netflix.

Wild About Movies

We do know that the mind works in mysterious ways. If you remember the time that nameless movie was released in, Wild About Movies is a great website to search in.

It lists movies based on their release year, and by week of release. The website promises more release date accuracy than IMDb, a bold statement.

If you remember watching a bad comedy because Deadpool screens were full that day, then the movie name you forgot is Zoolander 2, both released February 12 according to Wild About Movies. The more you know.

Encore Hack: Google Image Search

In this section,  I’ll guide you through an underrated Google tool that can help you know the name of the movie you can’t remember. However, this only works if the movie is playing somewhere around you.

Yes, the odds are low to not know a name of a movie right in front of you. But, you can see a scene from a movie on your barber’s TV or at a lobby and think: “I want to know the name of that movie!”. Google has entered the chat.

Google Image search is a google search extension that helps you search for results similar to an image of your choice. In other words, you can take a photo of the movie playing in front of you and use it to find the name of the movie.

Since you’ll be out of home, Google Lens is the mobile equivalent of Google Image search.

How to search by image:

  • Take or Upload the photo using Google Lens and tap search. If you’re not sure how to use mobile image search, click here
  • The search results of the uploaded image are most likely going to reveal the name of the movie.

Enjoy the movie!
