Underrated songs have always been there. For some reason, those songs never got the popularity they deserved. 

Every year a lot of new songs get released. We listen to a very small number of new songs and keep repeating them because the mass audience loved those songs. But does that mean all the other songs are bad? The answer will be ‘no’. There are a lot of songs that never came to the spotlight and stayed underrated so far.

Most Underrated Rock Songs

Rock or previously known as Rock and Roll is a popular form of music emerging from the 1950s in America. Rock has always been one of the top choices to the listeners. You may be thinking that you have explored everything well but still, there may have been some gems left that you haven’t explored yet. We tried to find those underrated songs.

1. Because – The Beatles

This classic rock song was released back in 1969 on the album Abbey Road. It has a notable three-part vocal harmony by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison, which was recorded three times with a total of nine voices. The lyrics of this song are written by Lennon which is pure poetry. The 2.45-second song is probably the best on the album. Even the vocals admitted it.

2. Southern Accents – Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

Southern Accents is the title track of the Album “Southern Accents” released in 1985. While this song was recorded there was tension between the band members as everyone had different opinions about how the album would sound like. Even Tom Petty broke his hand by punching on the wall out of frustration. What so ever the end result was amazing.

3. Shameless- All Time Low

The song was released in 2007 on the album “So Wrong, It’s Right”. All Time Low produced many hits but somehow this song stayed out of the spotlight. At least that is what we felt.

4. Mercy Street – Peter Gabriel

In terms of instrumentation or subject matter, Gabriel’s music was always forward-thinking. Mercy Street was released in 1986 on the album – “So”. The song makes you feel both, uncomfortable and at peace at the same time. Almost like you are looking into the deepest corners of your mind. 

5. Rock and Roll Is Dead – Lenny Kravitz

Rock and Roll Is Dead, is the first single released from the album “Circus” in 1995. This 3.24-minute song was written and produced by Lenny Kravitz. He thinks this hard rock song was misunderstood by a lot of people as they don’t take that one layer deeper.

Rapping is widely popular among people around the world, especially the new generation. Rap is all about content, slow and delivery. There may be some similarities between rap and hip-hop though. Some may agree that rap is a genre of Hip-hop. However, we created a different list for Hip-hop.

1. Dead in December – Convolk

Dead in December was released in 2017 on the album “Caught In a Hailstorm”. Convolk killed it with the flow, lyric, and videography. A lot of people loved it, yet we think of it as an underrated one. It deserves better.

2.  Ghost – Jack Harlow

This 2019 release is from the album, “Confetti”. Any rap lover will love this song for its awesome lyrics and refreshing flavor. As soon as you start playing it, you will start realizing how good the bass is.

3.  Home – Aries

This Hip-Hop/Rap from the album, “Welcome Home” released in 2019, should have been a worldwide hit. But it got less than 500k views on YouTube which is not fair. The lyrics is not so fast pacing but the vibe t creates is indescribable.

4.  MONEY & COLORS – CURLY SAVV

You will love the flow of this song with everything else. It’s from the album, “Glocky SZN”, released in 2020.

5. 51 Savior – GANG51E JUNE

This is another awesome but, underrated rap song released in 2020. If you are a fan of rap and haven’t heard this one yet, then try it now.

Pop is a wide genre of music that was arguably originated during the mid-1950s in the US and UK. Here we tried to find some of the most underrated pop music that you may have not heard yet.

1. Boyfriend – Selena Gomez

Boyfriend is one of the best songs that released in 2020 and deserves a bigger audience. The song was also written by Selena Gomez. She wrote that the song is about falling down and getting back up time and time again in love, but also knowing that you don’t need anyone other than yourself to be happy.

2. Fool’s gold – One direction

This 3.31minute song was released in 2014 on One Direction’s fourth album, “Four”. The phrase Fool’s Gold means something you think would be so pleasant and successful, but it is not. The lyric also demonstrates something like that.

3. How It All Works Out – Faouzia

The Canadian-Moroccan songwriter, Fauzia said that “How It All Works Out” was one of the best songs she had written. The song is from the album Stripped, released in 2020. It’s a wonderful love song.

4. Amy Shark – Adore

Adore is written and recorded by the Australian singer-songwriter Amy. It was released in 2016. Though this song was a breakthrough in her native country, we think it stayed as an underrated pop to the rest of the world.

5. Lover to Lover – Florence and the Machine

This 4.02 minute’s song from the album Ceremonials, released on 30th November 2012. Though the song became the band’s first single to miss the top 200 in the UK Singles Chart, it is one of the most unique songs in our underrated song list.

There are arguments about the origin of the name. But that is not an issue for music lovers. This genre of music is also widely popular. The arguable difference between rap and hip hop is, hip hop is more cultural and musical (beats) when Rap is More about the poetry of words.

Mountain Brothers is an American hip-hop group. They released this song in 1999 on the album – Self Vol. 1

5. Song 33 – Noname

This 1.03-minute thing is an incredible song. Song 33 is a response to J. Cole’s single, “Snow on the buff” which was released two days before and is largely about Noname’s role in the 2020 movement on racial injustices in the US.

It’s a Jazz album by Gil Evans. The album consists of 5 music tracks. All the other music from this album is also pretty good and deserved more public attention.

3. Take Five – Dave Brubeck Quartet

Take five is a Jazz standard from the album, Time out. It was recorded in 1959. After two years, it became the most selling Jazz single ever.

4. Minnie The Moocher – Cab Calloway

Minnie The Moocher was released in 1931 and sold over a million copies. This song became more famous for its nonsensical, ad-libbed “scat” lyrics. Calloway’s unique performance was also an attraction to it.

5. Lullaby of Birdland – George Shearing

Another Jazz standard and popular song. George Shearing composed Lullaby of Birdland in 1952. You may not know but George shearing was born blind, yet he became a successful pianist and composer.

3. Tiesto & Hardwell – Written in Reverse ft. Matthew Koma

The song got released in 2014 with the album A Town Called Paradise. Matthew Koma collaborated on this track.

This is the title track of the album Weekend by the duo artists Louis the Child & Icona Pop. Got released in 2016.

This song will hit you in the heart with its powerful lyrics and amazing voice. It was released in 2018 on the album, Mercury Lane.

6. Make Him Wait by Abby Anderson

Well, this one is not a very underrated song. I mean it already got 14 million views on YouTube. But have you heard it yet? It is from the album I’m Good, released in 2018.

Metal or Heavy Metal is a genre of rock music. This form of music was introduced from 1960 to 1970 by US and UK musicians. Heavy Metal has produced many songs that gained worldwide popularity. But some other songs in this genre should have been more recognized then it actually is. Here are some of them.

March of the saints is the title track of the album with the same name. It was the first album of the American band Armored Saint, released in 1984.

2. Sign of The Crimson Storm – Riot V

3. Epic – Faith no More

Epic is a song released in 1990 by American rock band Faith no more on the album named The Real Thing. The song was their first breakthrough hit getting lace in US Billboard Hot 100 and some other recognizations in Newzealand and Australia.

4. Killing the Name – Rage Against the Machine

This is a protest song featured on their self-titled debut album. The song was written about revolution against authority abuse of power. Killing the Name was released in 1992 and got recognized as a signature song of the band. This is not that unrated, but we don’t want you to miss this one.

5. Click Click Boom – Silva

The song was recorded in 2000 and released in 2001. The song was featured in six films including the fast and furious and also in some video games. The music video of this song is also quite interesting.
